The new QM Digital Peak Flow is a flow meter (Peak Flow) digital.
Population studies conducted in the Spanish territory provides data that place the asthma as one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in particular age groups of children and youth. In recent years we have witnessed advances in the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of asthma, bronchial considered an inflammatory disease, and treatment, with the emergence of new drugs and methods of inhalation. These advances have not been accompanied by new diagnostic methods to express objectively the degree of inflammation and, although there are specific markers, the measurement is still far from the daily practice of consultation. The diagnosis of asthmatic patients is still based on the clinical and respiratory function tests, which assess the functional characteristics of patients (obstruction, reversibility, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and variability) as indirectly estimate the degree of inflammation.
The peak expiratory flow (PEF) or peak expiratory flow (PEF) in Anglo-Saxon terminology, is the largest flow is achieved during a forced expiratory maneuver. You get to have expired 75-80% of total lung capacity (within the first 100 ms of forced expiration) and expressed in liters per minute, liters per second or as a percentage of its reference value. It reflects the state of the airways of high caliber, and is an accepted index as an independent measure of lung function.
The normal values are determined by size, age and sex. There are several ways of presenting them (Fig. 1) (Table III). Although there are few studies on reference values of PEF in the general population, each community should handle their own reference tables or obtained similares2 populations.
